Self-Harm amongst children and young people can at times be a difficult topic to discuss and understand. Despite this, it seems that this behaviour has become more common place and the exposure to self-harming more prevalent via platforms, such as, social media.
This talk will discuss the modern literature regarding this behaviour, for example, defining self-harming behaviour, why it occurs and continues, possible gender differences and the implications of this behaviour in today’s society.
In addition, practical advice to assist the individual, families and professionals effectively understand and manage the behaviour will be provided as a particular focus to assist the professional develop their confidence when interacting with an individual whom displays self-harming behaviour.
