SA TESOL: Cultural Intelligence, what is it and what are the benefits of developing it?

August 15 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

$15.50 – $25.50

In this session our guest speaker David Turnbull will introduce us to the concept of
Cultural Intelligence or CQ. We will look at the following topics:

• Cultural Intelligence in the TESOL classroom, a paradigm that is more than
knowledge and different to cultural competence
• CQ and the educator’s formation for intercultural engagement in the
classroom
• CQ and the classroom – pedagogies, managing cultural value conflicts, and
student empowerment, including discussion of example scenarios
• CQ and TESOL staff team practices

David is Head of Intercultural Studies at Tabor, and State Director of Global Interaction
South Australia/Northern Territory. He is passionate about supporting and equipping
cross-cultural workers and helping them develop their cultural intelligence.

The session is suitable for teachers of children and adults, in both EALD and
mainstream classrooms, and is relevant to the Australian Professional Standards for
Teachers listed at the bottom of the next page.
