Do I have to be 18 or older to do the training?

Do I have to be 18 or older to do the training?

No. In line with currently Child Protection legislation, people are mandated to notify suspected abuse or neglect if they work in a job (or volunteer) role with children or young people. This mandate applies to the role. There is no caveat to this that precludes people under the age of 18 from the legal mandate to notify.

Therefore, in the context of an education environment anyone who has a role in the institution is required by Law (mandated) to report their ‘suspicion on reasonable grounds’ that a child or young person is being abused or neglected.

What is NOT stipulated in the Law is who requires training in notifying abuse or neglect. This becomes a workplace decision as to what type of training is offered to employees or volunteers. As you would know, the Education sector of South Australia has deemed it necessary that ALL people working or volunteering in an education site have the RAN-EC training (or a version of).
